Walk n Talk

Amani Na Badha offers coaching sessions to women of color in the Pasadena area to encourage them to move forward and face the challenges that may lie ahead.

​

We see helping others as our purpose in life and want to motivate our peers, especially in the San Gabriel Valley.

Our view is that walking through pain is best practice. It is what Black people have always done to create change and it is what we continue to do because it has seemingly proven effective in the past.

Data have consistently shown throughout decades that Black Americans, particularly Black women, have higher rates of illness compared to Whites.

 

Black women have the highest risk for Alzheimer's disease. They have significant rates of mental health issues with some of the lowest levels of treatment. 

 

Forty-eight percent of Black women over age 20 have hypertension, and 57 percent of Black women are considered obese. Also, sexual assault and domestic violence are high among Black women.

  • Walking 30 minutes a day can reduce the risk of diseases more prevalent among Black women but it has a much needed secondary effect of strengthening communities.

Once walking, Black women often begin organizing – initially their families, then their communities, to innovate and solve problems together.

​

When we walk, we become more observant; we notice the environmental pollution, the abandoned buildings, the lack of safe sidewalks, the lack of affordable housing, and we say, ‘No more.'

When we inform, educate and engage each other, change is inevitable.

​

Walking can transform communities and we truly need local change given the esclating community tensions.

So, here's how it works:

 

Walk n Talk coaching sessions are set at your walking pace with the option to stop in several serene spots along the way to inspire your thoughts on self-care, empowerment and overall wellness.

We will help you incorporate weekly healthy habits into your life, including physical movement (stretching), stress reduction techniques (mindfulness) and spiritual enrichment (guided visualization).

 

Fanya and Crystal have extensive empowerment and self-care experience; they are also available to cover the following areas of concern:

  • Guidance for Future Goals and Desires

 

Due to the weather, we will start "walking n talking" inside the Paseo Mall.

As the year progresses we will move to outside venues nearby.

We update our Facebook and Twitter pages daily to offer you extra support and encouragement between our sessions together.
